The Papago Gateway Center earned the LEED Gold certification and was completed in 2008. The building is seven stories in stature and approximately 265,000 SF. The south face of the building is clad with a custom operable louver system which functions as a second skin for the building and is designed to control solar gain while maintaining clear vision so the building occupants could enjoy the views. The automated louver-screen is not only dramatic, but environmentally responsive to the weather station located on the roof. The buildings’ penthouse is clad with a horizontal metal cladding system designed to match the module size of the louvers for design continuity. The project also incorporates high quality waterproofing strategies below grade, at plaza level, and at the roof level all of which assisted the LEED effort. The project has won numerous awards including the Crescordia Award for Environmental Excellence from Valley Forward Association.
